Description :

A magnificent mid-19th century blue overlay glass covered drageoir, showcasing the refinement and precision of Bohemian glassmaking. The deep cobalt-blue casing has been delicately cut to reveal a milky opaline layer beneath, using the celebrated cut-to-clear technique. The result is a mesmerizing play of light and contrast — elliptical and circular cutouts that illuminate the surface like jewels.

The domed lid, crowned with a finely cut crystal finial, complements the luminous clarity of the stem and foot. This elegant silhouette, with its harmonious balance between the saturated blue and the translucent base, is typical of decorative pieces produced in Bohemia and France around 1850.

Originally designed as a drageoir or candy box, it would have held sugared almonds or delicate confections on a 19th-century table. Today, it remains a stunning example of period craftsmanship — both sculptural and functional, radiant with the brilliance of antique blue overlay glass.
