Description :

A finely carved French mirror dating to the late 19th century, executed in solid oak with a lively openwork foliate frame. The hand carving is crisp and deep, with scrolling acanthus, budding leaves, and softly chamfered edges that create beautiful relief and shadow. The oak has a warm, even patina that highlights the grain and the sculptor’s tool marks.

The mirror plate is beveled, catching the light and adding subtle depth to the reflection. Surface wear, tiny marks, and light age traces are consistent with careful use over time. The perimeter molding that seats the glass is neatly stepped and well joined.

As was customary on quality mirrors of the period, the back is secured with paneled wooden boards that reinforce the structure and attest to its authenticity. (A photo of these rear panels can be provided on request.) Handsome at entry, above a console, or anchoring a salon wall, this piece bridges classical and eclectic interiors with ease—an elegant statement of 19th-century French craftsmanship.
