An imposing French 19th century trumeau mirror in wood and gilded stucco, crafted in a neo- classical style. This simple but elegant mirror is enclosed within a fluted giltwood frame, its inner rim edged with a classic 'string of pearls' motif to accentuate the clean lines of the glass. The gilt frame is beautifully patinated, with different shades of gold characterising areas that have seen more wear over the passage of time, and there are other minor age-related imperfections to the gilt in places. A real statement piece, this charming trumeau mirror would originally have been hung on the narrow part of a wall between two windows or doors, where it would have been shown to best advantage against the wood-panelled walls so popular of the period.
