This petite French Louis XVI-style cherrywood commode has a charmingly rustic feel. Raised on four sheath legs, it features two frieze drawers adorned with gilt brass ring-handles and ornate escutcheons, between which are two pull-out protrusions, complete with bronze knobs, which may have originally been used for hanging small garments, such as belts or ties. Simple but beautifully proportioned, the natural wood of this 19th century chest of drawers has a wonderfully aged patina. The drawers are lined with crimson velvet, and the simple wooden top tray has mitred corners and shows some minor age-related imperfections and historic marks, which only add to its character.
