An exquisite 19th century Pitcher from the renowned earthenware manufacturer at Sarreguemines on the French/German border. Decorated in a very pretty Louis XV floral transferware motif and enhanced with bands of gilt-style faux-threaded ribbon and an interesting 'plaited' style handle. The rim of the jug is nicely undulating, and the spout is wide for ease of pouring – a useful feature, as this jug would have played an important part in a lady's morning toilette. The underside is stamped with the maker's mark. There is some wear to the gilt on the handle, but the jug is otherwise in very good antique condition, ready to add a touch of French charm to a country-style interior.
