Description :
A very striking Paris porcelain openwork compote, or fruit basket, fully gilded on its exterior, and beautifully shaped in a flattened oval style. The basket boasts a delicately reticulated design on its sides, with interlinking loops of beautifully shaped porcelain being retained on either side by a stylised gold feather. Crafted in two pieces, it is held together with its original brass bolt, and stands on a rectangular base for added stability. The basket dates from the mid 19th century, and shows some signs of wear to the gilt in places.
