A spectacular 19th century rectangular mantle mirror with a hand-crafted giltwood and stucco frame and bevelled mirror plate. The profusely carved frame of this striking mirror has a beautifully aged patina, and is decorated with an intricate and complicated design of acanthus leaves, roses, daisies and foliage all round. All four corners are out-set, and at its crest sits a stunning Rococo-style pediment with scroll flourish accents. A delicate string-of-pearls moulding outlines the perimeter of the bevelled glass. As well as being extremely beautiful, this mirror is the ideal large size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a wall mirror, on a narrow pier flanked by windows, or as a statement piece mounted over a console or atop a fireplace mantle.
