Description
This striking set of eight Longchamp terre de fer majolica oyster plates dates to the late 19th century and showcases the vibrant, coastal-inspired palette that made Longchamp such a celebrated French faïencerie. Each plate features three deeply molded shell compartments radiating from a small central motif, highlighted with hand-applied glazes in turquoise green, soft lavender, sandy beige, and warm caramel tones. The combination of sculptural relief and glossy glazing gives these plates a lively, tactile presence—perfect for collectors of antique French majolica or for dressing a refined seafood table.
All plates are stamped LONGCHAMP TERRE DE FER with impressed model numbers, confirming their authenticity and origin. The overall condition is very good for their age, showing the usual 19th-century craquelure and glazing variations typical of majolica. One plate has a noticeable rim chip (shown in photos). Surfaces remain beautifully glossy, with crisp detailing in the shell ridges and textured borders.
A rare complete set in this pattern, these plates bring both decorative charm and historical character to any collection or coastal-inspired interior.
