A rustic and very attractive antique French walnut oil jug, with three handles and a shaped pouring spout. Glazed all over in a gorgeous glossy caramel-coloured glaze, this gently rounded vessel has been further embellished with four applied and pinched vertical bands, with striated handles. Once a well-used object in an 18th century French country kitchen, and originally used for the preservation and storage of nut and olive oils, it would today make an interesting and artistic decorative feature with a fascinating and authentic backstory. The glazed finish shows some signs of wear, with scuffs and chips in evidence throughout. However, the jar is full of character, and any flaws should be seen as testament to its utilitarian history and centuries' old daily usage. A wonderful collectors' piece.
