A bright and cheerful ceramic jug, ovoid in shape and glazed in vibrant yellow, with hand- painted rose buds and a contrasting rim. The jug is marked on its belly and stamped on its base with with the mark of Jérôme Massier (1830-1916) of Vallauris in the south of France – a member of the renowned family of ceramicists from that village who date back to well before the French revolution, who worked with his cousins to revive ceramic art during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. This wonderful sunshine-coloured jug is beautiful just as it is, but would also make a fantastic receptacle for a bunch of brightly coloured garden flowers on an alfresco dining table.
