A superb pair of hand-painted Medici vases in fabulous polychrome 'Porcelain de Paris' in the Louis XVI style, and standing on sturdy, square bases. Dating from the 19th century, these very ornate porcelain urns are embellished with an exquisite decoration of flowers and ribbon garlands on a rich, burgundy background, with generous gilding to the rim, pedestal and leaf-shaped twin-loop side handles. The classically inspired urn shape of these sensational pieces derives from the famous ancient Athenian Medici vase, a marble vase dating to the first century CE, and now on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Displayed on a mantelpiece or console table, or flanking an antique mirror, they would add a stunning accent to any room.
