Description :

This refined French commode sauteuse, dating from the late 18th century, is an elegant example of the Louis XV Transition style. Crafted with great attention to detail, the piece combines the graceful curves of Rococo design with the more linear proportions that foreshadow the Neoclassical aesthetic of Louis XVI.

The commode features a warm marquetry veneer arranged in a chevron pattern, highlighted by delicate brass stringing. Two wide drawers provide ample storage and are adorned with finely cast gilt bronze handles and escutcheons, their sinuous lines adding a note of sophistication. The shaped apron and gently curved cabriole legs, mounted with gilt bronze sabots, further enhance its elegance.

Topping the structure is an original variegated marble surface in rich tones of red, cream, and white, beautifully complementing the warmth of the wood. The combination of noble materials—precious veneers, bronze mounts, and marble—reflects the high standards of French cabinetmaking at the end of the 18th century.

Versatile and timeless, this commode works equally well as a statement piece in a refined interior or as a functional storage element with undeniable charm. Its authenticity, craftsmanship, and graceful proportions make it a remarkable example of French decorative art.
