A charming pair of Louis XVI era 'Fauteuils en Cabriole', upholstered in stripes of luxurious cream and gold satin silk, edged in gold-braid trim. Discovered in a Provençal mansion, these open armchairs feature medallion-shaped concave backs, which, together with their upholstered, padded scrolled armrests, and generous, padded seat, make them very comfortable to sit in. Fluted, tapering legs end in toupie feet, the original grey lacquered finish having a nicely worn, chalky patina, which is, unusually, picked out throughout in a regal dark green.
