Description :
A fine early 19th century Louis XVI giltwood console table of demi-lune form, crisply carved and richly gilt. The shaped frieze is embellished with laurel-leaf swags tied by a central ribbon bow, separated by rosettes and a delicate beaded moulding—hallmark neoclassical motifs of the reign of Louis XVI. Tapered, fluted front legs with acanthus collars are united by an arched stretcher centered by an urn issuing a bouquet of flowers and framed by laurel branches, a particularly elegant sculptural accent that underscores the piece’s balance and symmetry.
The console retains a beautifully figured white-and-grey Carrara marble top with a moulded edge that sits perfectly over the frame, the cool stone playing against the warmth of the original gilded surface. Carving is deep and lively, with crisp leafing and berries that read beautifully in the light.
France, circa 1800s. Minor age lines, scattered gilding refresh and surface wear consistent with age and use; structurally sound and ready to place. An exceptional, decorative console for an entrance hall, salon or below a mirror.
