Description :
An exceptional set of eight Louis XVI style dining chairs, with wonderfully curved cabriolet backrests and sides in the 'Bergere' style. Upholstered in classic green and white striped velvet, this set of very comfortable chairs has frames crafted from white lacquered wood, embellished all around their curved edges with a very striking twisted rope motif in polished gilt. The chair backs are very unusual, their lower portions being white-painted woven cane, with their upper halves upholstered to match the seat and sides, and featuring three-pointed 'swags', which are most eye-catching. There is more gilt decoration to the apron of each chair, with a carved rose capital topping each elegantly fluted leg.
